Parisian Style Hot Chocolate

We love hot chocolates all year around in our home, this is our go to recipe.

Method

  1. 1. Heat the milk in a pan over a medium heat until it is steaming. Whisk in the grated chocolate and sugar until it melts, if you want to thicken it you can boil it very gently. Pour into small mugs (as it is very rich) and serve with toppings from your hot chocolate station.

Ingredients

For the chocolate:

20fl oz whole milk

5oz dark chocolate, quite finely chopped

2-3 tbsp Sugar

 

To serve on the hot chocolate station (optional):

Marshmallow snowmen (see recipe)

Drops of peppermint extract

Candy canes or Cinnamon sticks as stirrers 

Cookies for dunking 

Whipped cream 

Grated Chocolate or Ground Cinnamon to sprinkle on tip

Rich Dark Hot Chocolate

This hot chocolate recipe not only produces a wonderfully thick and frothy drink but I add orange zest to add something a little Christmassy to it.  You can also make this with milk chocolate if you have a sweet tooth.  Serve it with some chocolate truffles and it will get you instantly in the Christmas spirit.

Irish Coffee Cake

This recipe makes a moist coffee swirl cake cooked in a bundt tin. If you don’t have one, you can easily make it in a springform tin, buttered and the base lined with baking parchment. The addition of a cream liqueur is optional but really adds an extra special touch to both the cake and icing.

Vietnamese Coffee Éclairs

Anyone who has ever visited Vietnam will have come across the mini top hat shaped coffee filters which sit above small glasses filled with a tablespoon or so of condensed milk. It makes for a dark, creamy and sweet coffee which is enjoyed hot or poured over ice. These eclairs are a nod to both that wonderful coffee and the French influence which is quite apparent in Vietnam.
