Moroccan Harissa Meatballs

December 17

These sticky and spicy meatballs are perfect for a family meal or a party! The harissa tomato sauce will simmer and infuse the meatballs with all that delicious flavour. You can use either ground beef or a plant-based ground to make these – I’ve tried both and it works great either way!

Method

  1. 1. Combine all the meatballs ingredients in a large bowl, mix until all ingredients are evenly combined. Divide the mix into 20 even sized pieces and shape into balls. Place on tray lined with parchment as you go.
  2. 2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large non-stick sauté pan over medium heat. Cook the meatballs for 6–8 minutes or until browned. Using a slotted spoon set aside onto a plate while you start the sauce.
  3. 3. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the pan and add the garlic and harissa paste, sauté for 1-2 minutes. Stir in the passata, bring to a simmer, add the meatballs and simmer for 8-10 minutes until the sauce has slightly reduced and the meatballs have fully cooked.
  4. 4. Arrange the meatballs on a platter. Sprinkle over the pine nuts, remaining flat leaf parsley, mint and serve.
